• Welcome to HANDJOB. We are an encoding group made up of PTP members who share the simple goal of creating great quality encodes for every film known to mankind. Our tool of choice is Handbrake, a free and open source program available for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Absolutely anyone can join. All that we ask is that you follow our guides and get your first encodes approved (see 'Getting Started') in this thread before uploading them to PTP.

Getting Started

• Four Simple Rules

  1.) All encodes must be made with Handbrake using the MKV container and x264 codec.

  2.) Only uncompressed sources can be used (see FAQ).

  3.) Must meet PTP's minimum settings and not be trumpable (except for source issues: e.g. 'No English Subtitles').

  4.) Until you reach the rank of Made Guy, you must get approval for your encodes before uploading them.

  The HANDJOB Guide: This detailed, but easy to understand resource will help anyone on their way from producing their very first Handjob, right through to the more advanced aspects of encoding. If you want to become a member of HANDJOB, consider this your bible.

  Wiki > The HANDJOB Guide to DVDRips for Mac (Beginner Friendly) : For those using Mac OS, this guide comes with suggestions for alternative software as well as helping you through your first DVD rips with an illustrated walkthrough.

  Wiki > The HANDJOB Guide to BluRay Encodes for Mac (Beginner Friendly) : A guide that will help you through the process of encoding HD sources with a Mac-based computer system. Easy to follow and clearly illustrated.

  Source/Encode Screenshot Comparison Guide: An optional extra. This one will help you produce proof as to the quality of your encode. A must if you want to earn the hallowed Golden Popcorn.

Final Checklist

• Does your encode meet PTP's minimum settings?
• Is it DXVA compatible?
• If it has a framerate of 29.970 fps, have you checked for duplicate frames?
• Have you cropped it correctly?
• Is it the correct resolution (480p, 576p and 720p encodes)?
• Is your bitrate within the target range for its resolution (exceptions may apply)?
• If you're encoding from HD audio (True-HD, DTS-HD), have you used eac3to to create the audio track?
• Are your audio and/or subtitle tracks in sync with the video?
• Have you removed all non-English dubs from the encode?
• Have you labelled all of the tracks and set the defaults correctly?
• Have you named your chapters if available?
• If you chose to OCR your subs, have you run post-OCR correction and a spell-check?
• Is your filename according to HANDJOB guidelines?
• New: Have you given your encode the correct title (see FAQ -> Other -> How Do I Title My Encode?)

Lol, I'm in, I've only just started doing handbrake rips, I've got a couple that I've already encoded so it's just a matter of renaming them and upping them to my seedbox, I'll try and get the first one up tomorrow. Nice idea by the way and I love the name

Don't forget to post here when you have some titles out. I assume this thread will eventually be mostly about advertising our latest rips. Or maybe we will use the collection by then. More convenient and faster.

5 months, 4 days since I started getting The American... got you beat. Leeching 3 total

Im in! Im of the same philosophy as you screaminjay and i mostly upload rare, weird or obscure films so i like to set a queue of handbrake films on my 2600k. I dont understand rips that are 6gb x264 and theres a 7gb dvd9.. Its silly. Besides most the crap i rip isnt so greatly sourced anyways.
I have about ten dvds im gonna try to rip for halloween contest.

lol agreed, im sure last time you posted system you were saying they were 4gb and i cant find those either . In any case im afraid i cant support handbrake for ripping but gl to all that use it and add content

and btw 0.9.5 is the lastest for windows

at the expense of more posts, RE: ZAP -still must be rare ive encoded lots of x264 and ive never had one over 4gb and thats using 16 crf and fairly high settings! I guess saving private ryan is nearly 3 hours (but no dts or extra audio streams) but its strange sometimes it will only come out at just over 1gb i guess its the source

ive seen 4 gb ones. i guess saving private ryan is the biggest ive seen so far. that one is ridiculously large.

also, you guys should really be reviewing eachothers encodes to make sure they're ok.

I would love to join an encoding team, but I'm not really sure where to start and don't know anything about encoding. Well, I'm aware of the thread linked at the top of the first post, but I'll read it when I have the time to do so. Until them... Well, I'm just expressing my interest.

Edit: Oh hey, how about that, there's an entire forum for it. Will look more into it when I have time, but until then.... Why are there teams for it?
