Awesome tutorial, very useful, thanks!
I have one question, might be irrelevant, is there any difference between using MeGUI and eac3to to extract the .sup files or is it just a matter of personal preference?

I recommend using SubExtractor instead of SubtitleEdit, since it's OCR is way better...
https://subextractor.codeplex.com/

I used SubtitleEdit to OCR 24 Episodes.... after a few episodes SubtitleEdit had gotten a lot faster, but I still had to fix a lot after it was done... took a long time to OCR an episode...

then I tried SubExtractor and I was done so fast, my head was spinning... I mostly had to fix some italic tags, that was pretty much it...

Huge thanks for the info, I had a BluRay file with .sup subtitles embedded in the mkv and couldn't figure out how to OCR them. This helped tremendously.

Wow this works great, I literally only had to make about 10-15 corrections! Crazy fast process.

it does...
Converts subtitles from DVDs and PGS (Bluray .sup) files into Advanced Substation Alpha and SRT text format using OCR (optical character recognition).

you have to demux them first with eac3to...

See the option now, noticed it does run quite a bit faster, however some of the words are picked as partial italics, and some are not. It also seems like the spacing is messed up for some of the words when this happens. Definitely seems faster, wouldn't say better but maybe I'm biased

yeah, italics are pretty much the only issue I have with it.... but since you can simply search for them and fix them easily, it's not really a big issue... have to fix a lot more with subtiteledit and those errors can't all be simply searched, you gotta go through the whole thing to spot them....
